Looking Back at Our 10th Edition Warhammer 40,000 Slow Grow League

Over the last few months we wrapped up our first 10th Edition Slow Grow League, and it was a great success. The league ran over six rounds, with players building their armies from 750 points up to a full 2,000-point force, adding 250 points each round. The format gave everyone time to learn their army, paint new additions, and get games in without the pressure of jumping straight into full-sized battles.

28 players took part, and the progress on and off the table was something to see. Collections grew round by round as players bought, built and painted new units, with many armies going from small starter forces to fully painted 2,000-point lists by the end. Several participants had spent years collecting and painting but had never actually played a game of Warhammer 40,000. By the final round, their confidence, rules knowledge and tactical understanding had come on enormously, which is exactly what the format is designed to do. Across all six rounds, players got through over 80 games between them.

• 3rd: Sam Coates

A special mention for Lee, who finished the league undefeated and completed every one of his scheduled games. Six rounds without a loss is a real achievement and thoroughly deserved.

What We Learned

As our first ever Warhammer 40,000 league, it was a learning experience for us as organisers too. We know what worked, we know what we'd do differently, and we'll be carrying those lessons into every league we run from here.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Whether you were brand new to 40K, returning after a break, or a seasoned player after a more relaxed way to get games in, you made the league what it was.

What's Next: The 11th Edition League

With 11th Edition now here, we're getting the next league off the ground. This one is different: 2,000-point games from round one, with a focus on player development. We'll be encouraging discussion after games, sharing advice, and working on the fundamentals like deployment, movement, mission play, target priority and tactical decision-making.
