Club Night Roundup: The Salamanders Do It Again, and Nobody Wins a War Like the Soviets
One of our biggest nights in a while. Eight tabletop games across the main floor covering everything from ancient samurai clans to deep space kill teams, plus five D&D groups downstairs. Here's the full breakdown.
Bushido: Minimoto vs Bakemono Horde
We don't see Bushido on the tables often enough, so it was great to have a game of it running. The Minimoto clan faced off against a Bakemono horde in what is always a characterful game. Bushido rewards patience and positioning and there's nothing quite like it on the shelf.
Flames of War: Soviets vs Soviets
In what may be the most historically on-brand result of the evening, the Soviets fought the Soviets and nobody won. A draw. Both sides fought with distinction, which under the circumstances probably means neither side fought with distinction. A great game of Flames of War either way.
Kill Team: Sisters Celestian Sacresants vs Deathwatch
A cracking Kill Team matchup between two of the game's more elite forces. The Sisters Celestian Sacresants came away with the win, proving that faith and a power sword will take you a long way.
Warhammer 40,000
Six 40K games on the night, which kept things busy:
- Salamanders vs Custodes - at this point the Custodes might want to think carefully before booking another game against the Salamanders. The sons of Vulkan win again. That's becoming a pattern.
- Imperial Knights vs Tyranids - giant robots vs endless swarms. The Knights held the line and took the win.
- Admech vs Orks - this one went right down to the wire with the Orks coming out on top. Exactly the kind of game Ork players love and Admech players have nightmares about.
- Grey Knights vs Ultramarines - the boys in blue came out on top in a matchup of two of the game's most iconic forces.
- Crimson Fists vs Ultramarines - the Crimson Fists continue their winning form, sending the Ultramarines home to think about what went wrong.
- Necrons vs Death Guard - ancient undying machines vs plague marines who literally cannot die. A philosophical puzzle as much as a game, and the Death Guard edged it.
Downstairs: RPG Night
Five D&D groups running downstairs this week, which is a record for us. Three we can name: The Ashen Covenant, Peachfires: The Burden of Kings, and It Takes a Village were all in full flow. With five tables going the noise level was something else, in the best possible way.
If you fancy getting a game on or joining a campaign, the best place to start is our Discord. Members use it to arrange games, find opponents and keep in touch between sessions. Join the server, say hello and get something in the diary.
